From Tears in the Fence 55
CITADEL (abridged)
...The parrot was left in the library
when they went down to the tunnels,
this is not the future we are talking about,
simply bombing, simply bang bangs.
When I see an image I see a lamp
light along a corridor called history
stumbling, echoes patched back
together, there’s a sound.
Paintings of stick figures on the walls,
arms up— surrender or success?
There must be a finish line ahead.
A city face stares— disguised.
I know, I know— ghosts made from
diamonds will copulate before worlds end.
Anyway, they say we’re winning so
shush— young ones— shush.
